Music therapy is ideal for those who find verbal communication difficult for whatever reason.
For example children/adults who experience:
Learning disabilities, including those with profound and multiple needs
PTSD / experience of trauma or neglect
Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Difficulty communicating or forming relationships
Low self-esteem or confidence
Emotional and behavioural difficulties
Acquired brain injury or neurological condition
Mental health needs
Terminal illness
There is no need for a person to have any musical experience, and it is not just for people who have an existing interest and enjoyment of music. Anyone, regardless of ability can engage in a music therapy session since even the simple rhythm of the breath can form the basis for a musical piece. I also use a range of other creative modalities - art, sand-play, puppetry and story-telling - so I can engage wherever the motivation lies.
